Classroom Training

Girls' Lacrosse Rules Online Course by USA Lacrosse

All New Officials must complete the USALacrosse.com Girls’ Lacrosse Rules Online Course. Go to My Account on the USALacrosse.com page. Log in and then go to Transcript to see the list of required and available courses.

CTWLOO Rules Review Sessions

All New Officials and Re-Rating Officials (returning officials whose rating has expired) must attend or watch the recordings of the Rules Review Sessions being offered by CTWLOO. These sessions offer trainees an opportunity to ask questions, clarify rules, and see video of some of the rules in practice.

Field Training and Evaluation

New and re-rating officials will be assigned 3-5 games at pre-season tournaments and scrimmages where they will progress from shadowing an experienced official to officiating games while being observed. The final game assignment will serve as the Rating (or Certification) game. Ratings are conducted by CTWLOO officials who are also USA Lacrosse Certified Observers.

COME PREPARED!

  • Work on your fitness: endurance and sprinting
  • Come dressed in a referee shirt (1″ black and white stripes) or a black shirt (if you haven’t purchased a referree shirt yet) and black bottoms (skirt, long shorts or pants). Ideally all accessories should be black including socks, shoes and hat.
  • Complete USA Lacrosse Online Certification Course and CTWLOO Rules Review Sessions before hand. Send proof of completion to trainer@ctwloo.org

Annual Professional Development & Rules Exams

All officials must complete and pass:

  • the Annual Professional Development Course
  • the Girls’ Lacrosse High School Rules Exam, and
  • the Girls’ Lacrosse Youth Rules Exam.

Courses and exams are provided by USA Lacrosse. Log in to My Account on the USALacrosse.com page. Click on My Transcript. Then select Girls Officials Annual Certification (2024) to get a dropdown list of the required courses assigned to you including the Annual Professional Development Course, HS Rules Exam and Youth Rules Exam. Send certificates as proof of completion by Feb 5, 2024 to ctwloosecretary@gmail.com

Become an Official

Certification (or Rating) Levels

Junior Officials (Jr) are under 18 years of age or in high school and expected to possess a basic understanding and knowledge of the game and have the ability to officiate Youth level games, where the participants are 2 years younger than the official, using the two-person system.
Level 1 Officials (L1) are expected to possess a basic understanding and knowledge of the game and have the ability to officiate JV and Youth games using the two-person system.
Level 2 Officials (L2) are expected to possess an advanced understanding and knowledge of the game and have the ability to officiate mid-level Varsity, JV, and Youth games using the two-person system. Ideally, they have begun to learn the 3-person system as well.
Level 3 Officials (L3)* are expected to possess advanced proficiency, understanding and knowledge of the game and are capable of officiating in the two and three person system on the highest level of high school play.

*CTWLOO may not able to provide Level 3 Certification due to a limited number of scheduled games using the 3-man system.

Central Texas Womens’ Lacrosse Officials Organization (CTWLOO) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) membership based association of certified girls’ lacrosse officials. CTWLOO serves the Central Texas community by providing officials for high school and youth girls’ lacrosse events across the region.

The mission of the CTWLOO is to promote quality lacrosse officiating in Central Texas through recruitment, education, a mentorship program, training, and development.  We are comprised of skilled, knowledgeable officials who are dedicated to the integrity of the game and who, in collaboration with the players and coaches, facilitate safe and fair women’s and girl’s lacrosse in Central Texas.
